Respect the Daily Kos Guild, engage with the union

Fierce Planet Posted on January 23, 2023 by jnfrJanuary 26, 2023

Friends and kindred spirits wandering by this site probably have heard of DailyKos, the ur-parent blog of the US progressive sphere. Just last year, DKos (as the place is often known) celebrated the site’s 20th anniversary. Personally, I’ve been a member there for 18 of those years. I’m not entirely sure who makes up “Daily Kos Management” (DKM) these days, but a number of the workers at the site are represented by the Daily Kos Guild (DKG), a Pacific Media Workers Guild member and certified as the bargaining unit of represented staff. One more thing…

Fierce Planet Posted on October 17, 2022 by jnfrOctober 20, 2022

And then I’ll get back to US politics, I promise. After years of waiting around and negotiating behind the scenes, BTS has decided to go ahead with their mandatory military enlistments. Kim Seokjin, the eldest of the group, could enlist within the month after the release of his latest solo work. I love the way BTS and BigHit are handling this. They’ve been jerked around enough by the SK government trying to profit from them while holding enlistment over their heads. Both BTS and ARMY went through a lot, emotionally, since Festa dinner this year. For the most part fans … Continue reading →

Workers of the World, Unite!

Fierce Planet Posted on August 11, 2022 by jnfrAugust 11, 2022

Starbucks workers are unionizing all over, but Starbucks is fighting the trend by firing union organizers. As we see in the video below, the ultimate power belongs to the workers. Without us, they have nothing but an empty store. Starbucks fired an @SBWorkersUnited union leader in Buffalo. The whole store walked out in protest. This video has over 17 million views on TikTok. pic.twitter.com/WgObqa2ZAN — Josh Miller-Lewis (@jmillerlewis) August 10, 2022

Warren in Washington Square

Fierce Planet Posted on September 17, 2019 by jnfrSeptember 17, 2019

She had an excellent rally there last night. She spoke on eliminating government corruption as her first priority once in office. It went on for two hours, and the entire speech is available on YouTube. Buzzfeed also had a good report: At Her Biggest Rally, Elizabeth Warren Laid Out A Model For Her Own Kind Of Movement. At the marble arches that stand atop this lower Manhattan landmark, a crowd of an estimated 20,000 people on Monday night wielded signs about “big structural change.” Introductory speakers told the crowd that Democrats didn’t just need the energy of a “blue wave” … Continue reading →

Click through and read the whole thread. Thread: As a NICU nurse, I served on the “Bereavement Team.” We were a special team of Nurses tough enough to help new parents go through the worst day of their lives. Parents of babies who had fought so hard for their tiny little lives and weren’t going to make it… 1/ https://t.co/2ZzDAEziyi — Julia Pulver, RN (@VotePulver) April 28, 2019 And shame on Donald Trump for lying about these good people and their work, putting all in danger.

Meet Kaniela Ing

I agree with him. “What dreams would you pursue if your basic needs were met?” Our message is mainstream; it just makes sense. Hawaiian values are @DemSocialists values. pic.twitter.com/FyUaBodmcx — Kaniela Ing (@KanielaIng) August 8, 2018

At the March on Washington, 1963

Fierce Planet Posted on January 16, 2017 by jnfrJanuary 16, 2017

Martin Luther King, Jr. and John Lewis are shown here at the March for Jobs and Freedom. John Lewis is the only surviving speaker from the rally that day. I know who I will side with in these terrible times.
