Four years ago today. Never forget. Trump and the Republicans will try to gaslight you about what happened. I know it is terrifying that he’s been re-elected, but the least we can do is hold onto the truth. This was an attempted coup, an insurrection, and all their lies can’t change that. The incoming administration is going to be one of the most corrupt in history. Pay attention!

Read the indictments

Fierce Planet Posted on August 2, 2023 by jnfrAugust 2, 2023

I am so glad to see that Jack Smith has finally brought forth his charges against Donald Trump in the matter of the Jan. 6th insurrection. Now we will see whether our system can still serve justice to a powerful, wealthy, well-connected man, when that man has committed clear and monstrous crimes. The full text of the indictments can be found here (.PDF file). It’s very much worth your time to read, as it lays out in explicit detail exactly how Trump and those around him conspired to steal the Presidential election in several different ways, invalidating the 81 million … Continue reading →

Rejecting democracy

Fierce Planet Posted on January 11, 2023 by jnfrJanuary 11, 2023

I’ve been watching the attempted insurrection in Brazil, not with much shock, but with some anger. This is, of course, another expression of the right-wing authoritarians who are doing their best to fracture political systems around the world. They stormed Brazil's National Congress and set fire to the carpet. They attacked presidential offices, rifled through papers and tried to barricade themselves inside. Videos show Jair Bolsonaro's supporters rioting in Brazil’s government offices. https://t.co/dpVKpXYIdo pic.twitter.com/eMDQGA0rpf — The New York Times (@nytimes) January 9, 2023 Apparently Bolsonaro has been working with Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller, and perhaps other Trump-aligned fascist types, which … Continue reading →

No one should have to endure this

Fierce Planet Posted on June 22, 2022 by jnfrJune 22, 2022

And it is fully on Trump and the Republican Party who treat ordinary citizens this way, people who are working to make our elections happen, and who have done absolutely nothing to bring this on themselves. "There is nowhere I feel safe. Nowhere. Do you know how it feels to have the president of the US target you? … He targeted me, Lady Ruby, a small business owner, a mother, a proud American citizen, who stood up to help Fulton County run an election in the middle of a pandemic" pic.twitter.com/PeJcdw3J59 — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) June 21, 2022

From the HJC hearings

Fierce Planet Posted on June 10, 2022 by jnfrJune 10, 2022

The video they showed of the insurrection was brutal. I’m not going to embed it here, but if you didn’t see it, you should. It’s covered by a content warning, just so you know. In my current kind of despairing state, I don’t really believe it will matter. But I’m very glad they are doing this important work in such an excellent way.

And for the third time, with the hearings coming up. ________________________________________________________________________ I have posted this in the past. It is by the New York Times. Watch and remember what really happened that day.

A question for the NYT to ponder

Fierce Planet Posted on June 3, 2022 by jnfrJune 3, 2022

What makes this a “mock” gallows, exactly? Hastily constructed? Sure. “Mock?” Anyone think it couldn’t have worked? pic.twitter.com/YQg7Nr2kVF — David Waldman-1, of Yorktown LLC™ (@KagroX) June 3, 2022 Really looking forward to the public hearings next week.
