The important point
This should be the main headline on every news site, from now until the planet burns. But it’s not of course, and that’s a shame. At least we have Sludge to point out the truth for us.

Liz Cheney states it all clearly here. And for doing so consistently since the insurrection on Jan. 6, the GQP is going to toss her out of her leadership position, and replace her with a more obedient Congresswoman, Elise Stephanik. I would oppose all of Liz Cheney’s policy preferences, I am sure of it. Someone on cable news last night described Stephanik as “more liberal” than Cheney, which is a strange thing to say about any Republican today. But her voting record is clearly more moderate than Cheney’s. Nonetheless, Cheney insists on reality, on the rule of law, and believes … Continue reading →

Let’s start with this bit from Chris Hayes last night in the intro to his show. I’ve transcribed his words below, because I think they are important. If you can find his follow-up discussion with Stuart Stevens it’s worth listening to, as they go deeper into the very anti-democratic moves of the Republican Party today. Of course, now Donald Trump is no longer in office. He lost badly. Republicans lost both houses of Congress under his watch. He spends his days entertaining guests at Mar-a-lago. And on Saturday we will mail out our letters for the Big Send, trying to get voters to the polls in swing states. And then we wait, along with everyone else who has already voted, to see what our country decides to become. At least from Oct. 23-25 we … Continue reading →
This looks illegal to me
What the holy hell is going on here? Militarized Federal Agents from a patchwork of outside agencies have begun policing Portland (in rented minivans vans) without the explicit approval of the mayor, the state, or local municipalities. This is what that looks like in practice: pic.twitter.com/losap4SsgI — The Sparrow Project (@sparrowmedia) July 15, 2020 A bit more information “Who are these federal officers…?

If right doesn’t matter, we’re lost. If truth doesn’t matter, we’re lost. The framers couldn’t protect us from ourselves if right and truth don’t matter. And you know that what he did was not right.
