Insulting

Fierce Planet Posted on August 30, 2008 by jnfrAugust 30, 2008

I think Gail Collins is exactly right, in her aptly titled column, “McCain’s Baked Alaska”. Palin was chosen for no other reason than that she is a woman, and other women are supposed to be so impressed by that fact that we’ll fall in line without a thought. Hillary Clinton was well-qualified to be our first female President, and it’s an insult to her, and to all woman, to nominate such a lightweight to supposedly stand in Clinton’s shoes.

As Collins says:

This year, Hillary Clinton took things to a whole new level. She didn

Clearly in choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate, McCain has successfully rounded up the WTF? vote.

I don’t think many pro-choice women are going to go for a fully anti-Roe ticket, but I’ve never understood the Clinton supporters who turned to McCain.

Update: Ah, nevermind. That was ‘shopped.

I loved watching this. She is so smart, warm, and elegant. I’ll be proud to have her as our First Lady.

Hillary Voters

Fierce Planet Posted on August 25, 2008 by jnfrAugust 25, 2008

It’s strangely amusing to see all these talking heads hanging out downtown for the Convention. We’re steering clear of the crush, so it’s all on TV and the ‘net for me. But you have to notice that the media today are obsessed with the Hillary voters who are unsure they will vote for Obama. I heard MSNBC just now quote a poll that 30% of Clinton voters in the primary say they will vote for John McCain.

I think that’s insane, of course, given the fact that McCain, if he becomes President, will give us exactly the opposite of the policies and outcomes both Clinton and Obama support. I guess we’ll see. I think Clinton continues to make quite perfect statements about the situation, including her statement this morning about McCain’s use of her in his own ads – “I’m Hillary Clinton and I did not approve that message”.

Update: Okay, I just watched Chris Matthews interviewing three PUMA types outside the Convention Hall, and all I can say is that these women absolutely have to be right-wing plants. They’re not only stupid, they’re rude just like the rightist fringe.

I’m pleased with Obama’s choice of Joe Biden as his running mate. I think Biden will be both tough and thoughtful. I look forward to the debates.

VP Biden

I’m also very happy with Hillary Clinton’s statement on the choice, too.

Hillary Clinton made the following statement today after receiving news that Senator Obama had chosen Senator Biden as his Vice Presidential nominee:

“In naming my colleague and friend Senator Joe Biden to be the Vice Presidential nominee, Senator Obama has continued in the best traditions for the Vice Presidency by selecting an exceptionally strong, experienced leader and devoted public servant. Senator Biden will be a purposeful and dynamic Vice President who will help Senator Obama both win the Presidency and govern this great country.”

“So I bought another one”

Fierce Planet Posted on August 21, 2008 by jnfrAugust 21, 2008

That’s Cindy McCain talking about the two condos the McCains own in California. Seems the kids used the first one so much she didn’t get to use it as much as she wanted, so she bought a second one nearby. That’s taken from an interview in Vogue that she gave last spring, dug out by Talking Point Memo’s Election Central. I’ve been sitting here all afternoon trying to remember where I’d read that quote, so I appreciate that they found it.

“When I bought the first one, my husband, who is not a beach person, said, ‘Oh, this is such a waste of money; the kids will never go.’ Then it got to the point where they used it so much I couldn’t get in the place. So I bought another one.”

If you’re wondering about the McCain houses that have been in the news so much today, you can visit them via Google Earth, in this video put together by Jed Lewison at the Jed Report.

Speaks for me, too. After a careful description of McCain’s many failings as a candidate and a human being, he ends his commentary with this.

I am sick and tired of the president of the United States embarrassing me. The world we live in is too complex to entrust it to someone else whose idea of intellectual curiosity and grasp of foreign policy issues is to tell us he can look into Vladimir Putin’s eyes and see into his soul.

George Bush’s record as a student, military man, businessman and leader of the free world is one of constant failure. And the part that troubles me most is he seems content with himself.

He will leave office with the country $10 trillion in debt, fighting two wars, our international reputation in shambles, our government cloaked in secrecy and suspicion that his entire presidency has been a litany of broken laws and promises, our citizens’ faith in our own country ripped to shreds. Yet Bush goes bumbling along, grinning and spewing moronic one-liners, as though nobody understands what a colossal failure he has been.

I fear to the depth of my being that John McCain is just like him.
