Nature is savage

Fierce Planet Posted on July 25, 2022 by jnfrJuly 25, 2022

More states are arguing about anti-abortion legislation this week. Know what’s happening in your state, and tell your legislators to protect reproductive choices. I can't overstate just how horrible the past few weeks have been. Pregnant women have been refused treatment, put in the ICU, put on breathing machines, forced into unnecessarily childbirth only to watch a wanted baby die, hemorrhaged, lost their uteruses.https://t.co/2xxnbqiAne — Jill Filipovic (@JillFilipovic) July 20, 2022 Mother Nature's story of reproduction is bloody, messy, savage. Most fertilized eggs never become babies (if God knits you in the womb, he kills most of his creations). The … Continue reading →

And this comes as no surprise

Fierce Planet Posted on July 22, 2022 by jnfrJuly 22, 2022

Read the whole thing, then contact your Congresscritters and state officials. Demand that all Americans have their full rights respected. We can’t let these bigots determine how we live our lives. Gift link, should get you past the paywall for a while. After Roe, Republicans Sharpen Attacks on Gay and Transgender Rights Since the Supreme Court decision last month overturning Roe v. Wade, anti-gay rhetoric and calls to roll back established L.G.B.T.Q. protections have grown bolder….many Republican officials and candidates across the country have made attacking gay and transgender rights a party norm this midterm season. In Texas, Attorney General … Continue reading →

More about that boat

Fierce Planet Posted on July 15, 2022 by jnfrJuly 15, 2022

Slate presents an interview with Amy Autry, who works with a nonprofit organization called PROWESS, which plans to provide surgical abortions in the federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico, a project mentioned in this longer post. She’s got an interesting story to tell, so go read the whole thing! If You Can’t Get an Abortion on Land, Can You Get One on a Boat? A doctor explains her long-brewing plan to set up a floating clinic in the Gulf of Mexico. …Someday soon, they may not have to. To serve patients on the Gulf Coast who may be closer … Continue reading →

Abortion resources

Fierce Planet Posted on July 11, 2022 by jnfrJuly 11, 2022

You might notice I’ve added a new page for abortion resources. So far I’ve only added the links I’d surfaced when Roe v. Wade was murdered. Over the next week or two I’ll add in a few lines about the various organizations, their services, note locations (particularly which orgs are outside the US). I intend to keep the info up to date and online indefinitely. If you know of orgs that aren’t included but should be, let me know. Meanwhile, the free states where abortion is still protected are ramping up services as they must now embrace an increased wave … Continue reading →

They are just getting started

Fierce Planet Posted on July 8, 2022 by jnfrJuly 8, 2022

As I said earlier, it is important not to accept this Roe decision as normal, or as status quo. The Christian Nationalists have no intention of stopping here, no intention of letting those of us still living in free states live our lives as we wish. They intend to stomp on us all unless we conform to their religious dictates—no feminists, no queers, no history or discussion of the lives of people of color, certainly no movement forward on issues of equality and justice for workers, families, or those who live in poverty. This New York Times article reports on … Continue reading →

These things are all connected

Fierce Planet Posted on July 1, 2022 by jnfrJuly 3, 2022

I think Laurie Penny said this well in her substack column. You should read the whole thing. But realize that most if not all of the crises happening in the world today are the outcome of the same problem: the violent response of a white patriarchal order which sees its power waning.

Yes, killing Roe is a racist act

Fierce Planet Posted on June 30, 2022 by jnfrJuly 3, 2022

Jane Elliott is famous for her exercises teaching about racism, exercises she presents at various schools and to different groups of people. Below she reports about the ideology behind the movement to stop abortions in this country. I’ve transcribed her words beneath the video, and any transcription errors are definitely my own. 90-priceless seconds of Jane Elliot…pic.twitter.com/zfpPLCQLTV — Rex Chapman🏇🏼 (@RexChapman) June 25, 2022 Jane Elliott: “And right now white people are really frightened. The death of Roe is not the end, either

Fierce Planet Posted on June 24, 2022 by jnfrJune 24, 2022

Clarence Thomas writes, in a concurring opinion, that the Supreme Court should reconsider Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell — the rulings that now protect contraception, same-sex relationships, and same-sex marriage. — Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) June 24, 2022

“Roe and Casey are overruled.”
