Military Build-up on Iran Border?

Fierce Planet Posted on March 28, 2007 by jnfrMarch 28, 2007

Via Tigerhawk. I have no idea how reliable this source is, but it’s interesting anyway.

Russian intelligence sees U.S. military buildup on Iran border

MOSCOW, March 27 (RIA Novosti) – Russian military intelligence services are reporting a flurry of activity by U.S. Armed Forces near Iran’s borders, a high-ranking security source said Tuesday.

“The latest military intelligence data point to heightened U.S. military preparations for both an air and ground operation against Iran,” the official said, adding that the Pentagon has probably not yet made a final decision as to when an attack will be launched.

He said the Pentagon is looking for a way to deliver a strike against Iran “that would enable the Americans to bring the country to its knees at minimal cost.”

He also said the U.S. Naval presence in the Persian Gulf has for the first time in the past four years reached the level that existed shortly before the invasion of Iraq in March 2003.

Col.-Gen. Leonid Ivashov, vice president of the Academy of Geopolitical Sciences, said last week that the Pentagon is planning to deliver a massive air strike on Iran’s military infrastructure in the near future….

Neverland

Fierce Planet Posted on March 28, 2007 by jnfrMarch 28, 2007

I was watching CNN yesterday when I heard this interesting one-two interview by Wolf Blitzer. John McCain was going on about how CNN was so far behind in their reporting, because the security situation is so improved in Baghdad that Americans can walk the streets safely, but CNN is acting like that’s not the case.

So after talking with McCain, Blitzer turned to CNN reporter Michael Ware, who is in Baghdad now, and asked him about McCain’s charges. Ware states clearly that McCain is the one who is out of touch.

“Honestly, Wolf, you’ll barely last twenty minutes out there. I don’t know what part of Neverland Senator McCain is talking about when he says we can go strolling in Baghdad.”

Fortunately, someone’s put the exchange up on YouTube. Listen for yourself.

Reality strikes Fox News

Fierce Planet Posted on March 27, 2007 by jnfrMarch 27, 2007

I’m sure this is what Fox News meant to use as their caption:

With apologies to Crooks and Liars.

UPDATE: Dems win the Senate vote on the withdrawal language.

Just waiting around…

Fierce Planet Posted on March 27, 2007 by jnfrMarch 27, 2007

…to hear what the Senate decides to do about the Iraq withdrawal language. I mostly like Harry Reid, and I hope he doesn’t fail us here.

UPDATE: CNN says Cheney just arrived back in the Capitol (where was he before?) in case he’s needed to break a tie vote. It’s that close.

Tony Snow

Fierce Planet Posted on March 27, 2007 by jnfrMarch 27, 2007

Let me join with the rest of the blogs in wishing Tony Snow all the best as he continues his fight against cancer. The articles say he is upbeat and intends to fight for his life, and I hope this goes well for him and his family.

His words about and to Elizabeth Edwards were more than kind, and clearly understanding. He seems like a good man, and as I noted when he took this job, his rock band is named “Beats Workin'”. That still makes me smile.

Americans Support Dems’ Investigation

Fierce Planet Posted on March 27, 2007 by jnfrMarch 27, 2007

From a USA Today/Gallup poll. These questions refer to the attorney purge.

In spite of the whining from various media elites, Americans want investigations into the corruption of this administration. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. And while it’s true that the Dems may overstep at some point, and launch investigations that aren’t appropriate, that time hasn’t come yet, and isn’t even close.

Battlestar Blogging

Fierce Planet Posted on March 26, 2007 by jnfrMarch 26, 2007

Hell of an episode last night, though I wasn’t as shocked and surprised as the preview articles led me to expect. I thoroughly enjoyed it all. Starting with Apollo’s ringing speech about justice and the hypocrisy of those standing in judgement on Baltar, followed by Balter’s sad walk down the hall, holding his meager possessions, free but totally alone.

And then the shockers: the reveal of four of the five unknown Cylons (if that can be trusted; I don’t take anything in Galactica at face value). Four you would not have expected, either. I was sure Gaeta was one of the Five.

This Entertainment Weekly article contains interviews with Mary McDonnell, Edward James Olmos, and Ronald Moore (the show’s Exec. Producer). Olmos said:

All the kids who were chosen [to be] Cylons were floored. Just stunned. I remember reading it going, Oh my god

Americans back Dems’ withdrawal plan

Fierce Planet Posted on March 26, 2007 by jnfrMarch 26, 2007

By nearly 60%, according to this Pew study

A solid majority of Americans say they want their congressional representative to support a bill calling for a withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq by August 2008. Nearly six-in-ten (59%) say they would like to see their representative vote for such legislation, compared with just 33% who want their representative to oppose it.

Pass the word, and don’t let the media tell you otherwise.
