I am not despondent
In fact, I’m not particularly worried by this election. I am sorry to lose Betsy Markey. I am happy we’re keeping Michael Bennet. Some other good things happened in Colorado as well: all three tax-busting amendments were defeated, and the profoundly misguided “fetus personhood” amendment was defeated. Still, even here conservatives made a lot of gains, and in other parts of the country they made even more. But I am not worried. The demographic tide is with the progressive vision. It’s strangely amusing to see all these talking heads hanging out downtown for the Convention. We’re steering clear of the crush, so it’s all on TV and the ‘net for me. But you have to notice that the media today are obsessed with the Hillary voters who are unsure they will vote for Obama. I heard MSNBC just now quote a poll that 30% of Clinton voters in the primary say they will vote for John McCain. I’m pleased with Obama’s choice of Joe Biden as his running mate. I think Biden will be both tough and thoughtful. I look forward to the debates.
