NY-23

Fierce Planet Posted on November 3, 2009 by jnfrNovember 3, 2009

I am not surprised that the conservative wing of the Republican Party wants conservative candidates in safe Republican districts like NY-23. It’s the same thing liberals feel about Dem districts. We want to see them represented by candidates that will be as strongly progressive as the district allows. And when as in this case, a candidate is chosen without a primary or any input except from party officials, you’re much more likely to get a candidate who is out-of-step with your party base. I believe in the primary process as a way of ensuring that the voters, the little people … Continue reading →

Another edition of…

Fierce Planet Posted on October 21, 2009 by jnfrOctober 21, 2009

What Digby said. I think it’s really neat that the White House is telling everyone to unite and all. I’m not quite as impressed that he seems to be telling them that they have to unite around the minority position. Since there’s no chance of getting Republican votes, there’s no need for compromise. They should unite around the best plan and pass the damned thing.

Netroots Nation

Fierce Planet Posted on August 14, 2009 by jnfrAugust 14, 2009

Netroots Nation is happening right now, in Pittsburgh, all weekend long. I couldn’t be there, so I dropped in to visit with friends at Netroots Nation in Second Life. We loved President Bill Clinton’s keynote speech last night too. If you missed it, Salon has a good report. C-SPAN is carrying some of the sessions live if you can’t be in-world. Some of the speeches are archived there as well. Or you can watch in your browser via Ustream.tv. It’s a good place to socialize, strategize, and get your engines humming for the fall. So soak in some Netroots Nation, … Continue reading →

Whitehouse Speaks

Fierce Planet Posted on July 14, 2009 by jnfrJuly 14, 2009

I tried to listen to the Senators talk yesterday at the Sotomayor hearings, but honestly most of them were too long-winded and not particularly interesting. One exception was Sheldon Whitehouse, who made some good points. If you have a few minutes, listen to this.

What the…?

Fierce Planet Posted on July 3, 2009 by jnfrJuly 3, 2009

“America is now, more than ever, looking North to the Future.” That’s primo batshit crazy. At least it’s brought the Michael Jackson tributes to a momentary halt.

Seat Al Franken Now!

Fierce Planet Posted on June 30, 2009 by jnfrJune 30, 2009

Finally! For all of the foregoing reasons, we affirm the decision of the trial court that Al Franken received the highest number of votes legally cast and is entitled under Minn. 32 Stat.

Targeting Republicans

Fierce Planet Posted on January 29, 2009 by jnfrJanuary 29, 2009

Americans United for Change has created a series of 30-second ads targeting a number of Republican Senators who might be persuaded to support Obama’s economic recovery plan. The ads are a joint project of Americans United for Change, MoveOn.org, and two large unions: AFSCME and SEIU. See the national ad below. There are versions specifically calling out Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Charles Grassley of Iowa, and Judd Gregg of New Hampshire.

Campaign for Change – Colorado

Fierce Planet Posted on November 6, 2008 by jnfrNovember 6, 2008

We’re looking forward to having our weekends back to normal, trying to remember the projects we had planned when we decided two months ago to give our free time to the Obama campaign instead. By now, the little office that has been headquarters for the campaign in this part of Colorado has probably been emptied out. It was a good little office, though. This morning we heard a news report about Obama’s transition team, and how they are organized into different teams and functions, and we smiled at each other. Yeah, that’s the campaign we saw – efficient, organized, disciplined. … Continue reading →
